Thank you to the P&C for staff lunch!
Gratitude is a big word with a simple meaning — being thankful for the good things in our lives. It’s about noticing the people, moments, and little things that make life better, and letting others know we appreciate them.
One of the No Bullying Week activities on Friday, is a shared lunch with students and staff (who are able to) on the Junior oval. Thank you to the P & C for organising lunch for staff, including one of Sue's delicious treats!
Around out school, you may have seen, the words of this year's No Bullying Week theme -Be Bold, Be Kind, Speak Up! This is ready for all students to display their thoughts with a speech bubble as one part of the conversations, focus and learning this week!

PBL: Positive Behaviour for Learning
This Week’s Focus: Bullying No Way Week – Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
This week we recognise Bullying No Way Week with the theme Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up. At our school, we believe every student has the right to feel safe, valued, and respected.

Key Messages for Our School Community
- If you see or hear something wrong – help stop it.
Your actions can make a difference. Speaking up for others can help stop harmful behaviour. - Show kindness every day.
Use polite words, offer help, and show care towards others. - Be respectful to everyone.
Listen carefully, wait your turn, and treat others the way you would like to be treated. - Your actions matter.
Kindness and respect help create a welcoming environment where everyone feels safe. - Peers can protect against bullying.
When students support each other, it makes our school stronger and safer. - Speak up if it’s safe to do so.
If you see others not being kind, act—show kindness or speak up to help stop bullying.
Our Daily Focus Bullying No Way
Day One – Be Bold: You have the power to help.
Being bold doesn’t mean putting yourself in danger – it means choosing to do what’s right. Standing up shows others that bullying is not accepted.
You can say things like:
“That’s not cool, stop it.”
“Let’s go, you don’t have to deal with this.”
Stand up in a safe way or tell a teacher or trusted adult. Your support can make a difference.
Activity: Share how you can be BOLD.
Day Two – Be Kind: Small actions make a big impact.
Kindness builds connection, and connection helps stop bullying before it starts.
It’s the little things – a smile, a kind word, inviting someone to join in – that can change a person’s day.
Try this: Give someone a compliment today. Say hello to someone new. Stand up for someone who’s alone.
Activity: Be KIND – pay someone a compliment.
Day Three – Speak Up: Become an upstander.
Speaking up doesn’t mean getting into a fight—it means taking safe and supportive action to help.
This could be reporting what you saw, offering comfort afterwards, or encouraging others to do the right thing.
Bullying is everyone’s problem, and one voice can inspire others to follow.
Activity: Share your BYSTANDER comment – How do you SPEAK UP?
Day Four – Think before you post or speak.
The words we choose can build someone up or tear them down.
Ask yourself: Would I want someone to say this to me? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Online bullying is just as serious as in-person bullying. Use your voice to spread positivity and respect.
Activity: Do you THINK before you speak or post?
Day Five – Together, we can stop bullying.
The best way to stop bullying is by working together – students, teachers, families, and friends standing up, speaking out, and supporting each other.
Visual activity: Crumple a piece of paper, then smooth it out. Notice the lines and marks – like hurtful words, they can leave a lasting impact even after an apology.
Every small positive action helps create a kinder school and community.
Activity: What will your speech bubble say in our school display?
Classroom Reflection – Think, Pair, Share
Throughout the week, students discussed:
- Why is it important to be kind?
- How can you show your classmates that you are a kind and respectful person?
- How do you feel when others are kind and respectful to you?
- What could you do if you see someone who is not being nice to someone else?
These conversations encouraged students to reflect on how their words and actions can make our school a safe, caring place for everyone.
Conversation Starter for Home
Share a time when someone was kind to you—how did it make you feel?
- Talk about a time you spoke up for someone, or someone spoke up for you.
- Discuss how your family shows kindness and respect at home, at school, and in the community.
- Role-play what you could say if you saw someone being treated unfairly.
- Challenge each other to perform one small act of kindness each day this week.
Bullying No Way Week – Family Kindness Challenge
Theme: Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
This week, our school is taking action to stop bullying and build a kinder, safer community.
Here’s how your family can join in the challenge at home!
Your 5-Day Family Challenge
Day 1 – Be Bold
Share a time you stood up for someone (or someone stood up for you).
💬 What could you say to help a friend in need?
Day 2 – Be Kind
Do one small act of kindness for a family member.
💬 What’s one nice thing you could do right now?
Day 3 – Speak Up
Role-play what you would say if you saw someone being unkind.
💬 Who are the trusted adults you could tell?
Day 4 – Think Before You Speak or Post
Talk about why words matter – in person and online.
💬 Would you want someone to say that to you?
Day 5 – Together We Can Stop Bullying
Plan one way your family can help others feel included.
💬 What can we do as a family to make our community kinder?
Family Goal:
✔ Complete at least one challenge per day this week.
✔ Share your favourite moment on our school kindness wall!
Remember:
Every positive action, no matter how small, can make a big difference.

Bullying - No Way - National Week of Action
Bullying – important conversations to have with your child.
Brookfield State School is proud to participate in the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action – 11 to 15 August 2025.
By working collaboratively within our community, we can collectively help reduce bullying.
Families play an important role in helping children understand bullying and know how to respond to it.
If your child tells you about things at school, or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is. You can learn more about what defines bullying at bullyingnoway.gov.au.
Questions you could ask:
- What do you think bullying is?
- Have you seen it? How did you feel?
- Have you ever felt scared at school because of bullying?
- As well as me, who are the other adults you would talk to when it comes to things like bullying?
- Have you or your friends left other kids out on purpose? Do you think that was bullying? Why or why not?
- Have you ever tried to help someone who is being bullied? What happened? What would you do if it happens again?
Remind your child that bullying is never okay and discuss how they can respond safely if they experience or witness it.
Encourage them to seek help from a trusted adult and keep seeking support if needed.
By promoting open communication, we empower children to stand up against bullying and create a safer environment where everyone can feel that they belong.
For more information visit bullyingnoway.gov.au.
Don't forget - we are wearing FREE DRESS featuring PURPLE on Friday 15 August.

Joining Generations Concert
Our Joining Generations concert and morning tea is coming up on Tuesday, August 26, starting at 10:00am. We have sent out invitations to some local retirement facilities and have received a positive (but not yet confirmed!) response from them. Please invite your families and friends to come along and be a part of this morning. This concert is a wonderful way of bringing together our young and not-so-young community members together over music and a chat with a cup of tea.
Families of our Senior Band, Senior Strings, Senior Choir, Intermediate Choir and Yr 6 Marimba group should have received an email on Monday afternoon with details about this event. Also included in that email was a link to a parent survey that helps us to be able to plan for a successful morning. This survey will take less than 2 minutes to complete and asks for the following information:
- Can you help with set up/ serving/ clearing up the morning tea?
- Can you send along a plate of food for our guests for morning tea?
- How many guests are you planning to bring?
Huge thanks to Julia Cretchley (mum of Ebony) for putting her hand up to be our morning tea co-ordinator for the morning. Of course, she can’t do it all by herself, so all offers to help - no matter how short a time – are appreciated.
We are also asking all Year 5&6 students to bring along a plate of food to share with our guests. Please let us know in the survey if you are able to help with this. Any queries can be directed to Melissa McMillan at mmcmi10@eq.edu.au.

Thank You Corner
A huge thank you to Natalie Schunke who has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming Father's and Special Friends Day Stall. Natalie has been involved in the stall for the last 5 years and for the last 3 years she has organised everything for both the Mother's and Father's Day stalls. Natalie does incredible behind the scenes work and planning to make the stalls happen each year and we love her commitment and proactive attitude. Natalie has decided to pass the baton on to someone else next year, so please give some thought to whether that is something you are interested in leading next year. In the meantime, we look forward to the stall and thanks for everything Natalie!

Brookfield Tennis Centre
The Brookfield Tennis Centre are offering a free trial tennis lesson for all kids at the Brookfield State School courts or at the Brookfield Tennis Centre courts. Brookfield State School has a very proud tennis tradition with roughly half the school enrolled in tennis lessons at any point in time and we'd love your child to be a part of it.
This a great way for your kids to make new friends, learn a great set of skills and a game for life and have a wonderful time in the process. All kids that enrol into lessons will receive a free tennis racquet from the team at the Brookfield Tennis Centre to help them get going.
Their coaching staff will take good care of them during the session. They will walk your child up to their class after the lesson in time for the bell.
To register your child please email John and Roanne at tennis@brookfieldtennis.com.au. Spaces are limited.
