Welcome back to Term 3!
It was just a joy to welcome back our students (and their holiday stories!) this week!
There are some slight Community Calendar updates, and it is attached below and referenced by date. Schools are busy places and there are many fabulous annual events, opportunities for students and community events to look forward to!
We start with NAIDOC week learning is occurring this week with the theme this year is focussed on the Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
2025 School Opinion Survey Time!
Each year, the Department of Education conducts School Opinion Surveys to gather feedback from families, school staff, and students in Years 5, 6, 8, and 11. This helps us understand what we’re doing well and where we can improve.
Parent/Caregiver Survey - What you need to know!
Who: One parent/caregiver per school family will receive one email invitation to complete based on contact details in One School.
When: Survey invitations will be sent during the week of 21 July, over several days. The survey officially opens on Monday, 28 July and closes Friday, 22 August, however, can be completed as soon as the invitation is received.
How: The email will be titled "School Opinion Survey for parents/caregivers, 2025" and contain a unique link and password. Only one response can be submitted per link. Parents/caregivers should check junk email folders if it can’t be found.
Access: The survey can be completed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Devices can also be made available at school upon request.
Confidentiality: All responses are anonymous. Personal information is used only for distribution and is deleted before results are processed.
Need Help?:
If you haven’t received the invitation, please check your junk email folder or ask another caregiver in your household. You can also contact the SOS team at schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au for a new link.
Translations:
Translated versions of the survey are available. Please reach out to the office by phone or email if needed.
Please encourage fellow parents/caregivers to complete the survey. Your feedback makes a difference!!
Student Survey (Years 5 and 6)
Students in Years 5 and 6 will also complete their survey during class time.
Staff will ensure students are aware beforehand and know that they will be completing it in class time. The survey purpose will be shared with students and ensure their have time to ask questions.
Survey invitations will be sent to students, via a link to their EQ email account, during Week 2, Term 3.
The survey period is open for the same amount of time - 28 July and closes 22 August.
Begin with the End in Mind!
As we begin a new term and launch into the last half of the school year, the habit “Begin with the End in Mind”— is a principle that comes to mind and can be used by individuals of all ages. Whether you’re planning a holiday, managing school and work projects, setting goals - whether that be learning or life, individuals of any age can regularly use this habit to stay focused and achieve what matters most.
When students begin with the end in mind, they’re encouraged to:
- Visualise what they want to accomplish by the end of the term
- Make choices that align with their goals, whether academic, social, or personal
- Take responsibility for the steps needed to reach those goals
We can help bring this habit to life at home and school by:
- Sharing how you set and work towards your own goals
- Asking - what a “successful term” would look like for them
- Encouraging regular check-ins on progress, and adjusting plans if needed
- Celebrating small wins and reinforcing the value of persistence
We help children see that success doesn’t happen by accident—it’s something we plan for. Let’s support our students in starting this term with purpose, direction, and the mindset to succeed.
Important Message: Parking - Boscombe Road
As our beautiful school community continues to grow and we have continued to welcome new families to the area, it is a timely for a reminder of support and awareness of our Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade which is located next door to our upper car park.
As the image shows below, parking across this driveway (or any driveways) is not permitted. This hinders the ability to have an exit point for the Rural Fire Brigade, in the case of an emergency. Thankyou in advance for understanding the importance of this.

Below is some information, for those in our community who would like to read a little more about this invaluable service in our Brookfield community.

Red Ball Tennis Team Trials - Tuesday 22 July and Wednesday 30 July
The Tennis Qld Primary Schools Cup Regional Competition is fast approaching and this year the teams who win their Met West Region will play in the State Final at the Brisbane International in January.
At this year’s State final over 120 schools participated in this event. Brookfield State School will be entering teams in all 3 divisions once again. Our Green ball team comprises of the schools top 4 players (Year 6). The Orange ball team comprises of the next best 4 players (Year 5). We are extremely lucky to have so many fantastic players that are still all eligible to represent the school in Red ball. The Red ball team is the most successful team, having won the State Final for 7 years. Last year our Red Ball Boys and Girls teams came in the top 3, this year we want to try and win it again.
The guidelines for the Red Ball competition are that all players who are in Prep to Year 4 can participate. We are calling on all our players in Prep to Year 4, who would like to try out for the school Red Ball teams to come along to the trials. Regardless of what ball you are coached in, if you are in Year 4 or below please come along and try out for our teams to represent the school. We will be entering a girl's team and a boy's team.
We will be holding trials for the red ball teams on Tuesday 22nd July and Wednesday 30th July. Trials will take place at first break. Please can you ask your child to meet us at the Synthetic Grass near the tuckshop as soon as the bell rings for break (with rackets).
The Met West Regional Final will take place on Monday 25th August at the Queensland Tennis Centre and from there the top 2 teams will go through to the State Finals in January.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me on 0434 909 392 or email on tennis@brookfieldtennis.com.au.

Uniform Reminder
As we brace for the few weeks of cold weather that we fondly call 'winter' here in Brisbane, please support your child to wear our school uniform items, and to pop their name on all items - particularly jumpers which are often shed as the day wears on.
New uniform items are available to purchase through FlexiSchools with a range of second-hand items also available to purchase from the Uniform Shop (open Tuesdays). Second-hand jumpers are only $5 - a bargain!

Sausage in a Bun - ORDER NOW!
Don't forget to jump onto FlexiSchools and order your child a Sausage in a Bun for Monday 28 July - supporting our Year 6 Graduation Fundraising.

ICAS
Our students have many talents, and this year they’ll once again have the chance to take part in the ICAS competition to share and celebrate their achievements.
What is ICAS?
ICAS is an online academic competition for Years 3-6 that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics and Science. ICAS evaluates student performance against other competition entrants across the state and nation. The data reveals student strengths and weaknesses and can help you recognise and support your child's academic journey.
Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for one of the highly coveted ICAS medals.
Brookfield State School is offering students the opportunity to sit the following tests.
Subject | Sitting Date | Cost (AU$) |
English | Monday 11th August | $20.95 |
Science | Monday 18th August | $20.95 |
Mathematics | Monday 25th August | $20.95 |

It is Reporting Time
As reports will be emailed this week, it's a good opportunity to remind you of the updates to the K–12 Curriculum and Reporting Framework (CARF) introduced this year. The CARF guides us on how we teach and report on student progress. These changes were outlined in earlier editions of our Banter and can be found below. If you have any questions about your child's report, please see their class teacher.
Prep Reports
While Prep students have continued to study all curriculum areas, they will only receive formal grades for English, Mathematics and Health and Physical Education (HPE). For other subjects, students have engaged in learning experiences, and instead of the usual formative assessments, they will participate in monitoring tasks to track their progress. The changes will be reflected in the end of Semester 1 report, which will be emailed in Week 10.

Reporting Scales and Descriptions
The scales below will be used in the end of Semester 1 report, which will be issued via email on Thursday.

For more information, please refer to the following links.
The Curriculum and Reporting Framework (CARF) can be found at https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/stages-of-schooling/k-12
If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact the Curriculum Coordinator Lisa McKay on lmcka51@eq.edu.au

Rainbow Reads
From little things, big things grow……
Across our Prep classes this year we have implemented the rainbow reads program. Each week a high-quality children’s book with the message of inclusion, diversity, self-advocacy or social skilling is read to each class. These texts are intentionally selected in an effort to respond to the current needs of the children and with the overarching goal to build a culture of inclusion where diversity is valued and celebrated. Afterwards the children share their connection with the story, and we brainstorm strategies and scripts to use in life for when they are needed. Research shows that if we want our children to access regulation strategies when they are heightened, we must rehearse them when they are calm. Over the year this will mean that the children have been exposed to 35 additional texts and taken part in roughly 9 hours of focussed learning through stories and micro lessons with our inclusion teacher.
Please find below a list of books that will be covered this year. Please note that these are subject to change as sometimes one book is more needed than another depending on what is happening for a particular group of children.
